Ships, Clocks & Stars: The Quest for Longitude, produced by the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England, celebrates the 300th anniversary of the British Longitude Act of 1714, which offered huge rewards for any practical way to determine longitude at sea. The longitude problem was so difficult that–despite the rewards–it took five decades to solve it.
The tour will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 2. The Folger Library is located at 201 E Capitol St, SE. Directions to the Folger are available at http://www.folger.edu/visit. The tour is limited to a maximum of 15 participants. You must register in advance here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/asprs-potomac-region-tour-of-the-folger-shakespeare-library-tickets-16492751263
After the Folger tour, we may have lunch nearby or visit the Library of Congress map collection.
